Manicure Monday: Zoya Roxy

  Hi all!  I wanted to share with you really quick, my manicure for the week; featuring a Zoya polish in the shade Roxy.  I picked up Roxy, Meadow and Gabriella (I think?) when Zoya was having that amazing New Years promotion where you could pick 3 polishes and only pay the shipping.  I had always wanted to try out Zoya and that was the perfect opportunity to do so!

  Roxy, is a really gorgeous deep purple/magenta jelly kind of color.  I have a hard time deciphering the color, but the flecks in the polish are definitely a hot magenta or hot pink!  I love this it's so pretty and compliments my skin tone nicely.  The application of this was a bit gloopy for me, but I got it to work with me and it turned out nice.  ^.^;  It sort of reminds me of China Glaze's Ruby Pumps, but in the purple family!  I thought that this shade was a good winter shade, in person this polish looks "vampy", at least to me it does.

  In this last picture, you can see how purple/magenta the shade is, unfortunately my Sony Handycam does not take very good up-close or detailed zoom pictures.  I also have crappy lighting in my home and am working on figuring out a solution to that.  So what did I think about my first Zoya polish experience?

Application was gloopy, but I decided to give the polish 5/5 because it wasn't something that was totally unbearable and I feel maybe it was because I was in a bit of a hurry.  So all in all, I don't have any complaints after all! ^.^;;

  I definitely like the quality of this first Zoya polish and I love their color range!  I can't wait to share the other two that I picked up in future Mani Monday posts!  Hope you all enjoyed this quick post and I apologize for the picture quality, they do not do this polish justice!  Until next time!

Cherry Culture Haul: NYX and Milani

  Apologies for the long wait!  I got caught up with two final projects due in two weeks and have started them both this last week, and on top of that full time job AND a friend of mine asked me a favor, so I have also spent some time on a project.  (^__^  );

  I had some time to take pictures of swatches and all of the items I received in my last haul from Cherry Culture.  I have been very pleased with everything I purchased and would like to share with you a mini review of each item!

Manicure Monday: China Glaze Prismatic 3D Holographic polish in Prism

  Happy Monday everyone!  ( >_>);  Today I wanted to share my first "holographic" nail polish with you!  I mentioned in my previous post (here) that I had a small haul from Cherry Culture that I wanted to share and do reviews for soon.  They were having a 20-50% mark down sale on select items, but today was the last day!  (The sale ends tonight at 11:59pm CST).  But don't worry, Cherry Culture has sales pretty frequently so be sure to sign up for their newsletter or check their website often.  Anyway, part of my Cherry Culture haul was a China Glaze Prismatic 3D Holographic polish and the one I picked up is in Prism.

It's this amazingly glitter-bomb-tastic, bling on steroids lavender-y shade and it is gorgeous!!  It is definitely going to blind and mesmerize in the sunlight!  This polish has larger silver, red and green glitter particles and lots of micro glitters as well.  It is definitely grainy in texture and the application was a little different, considering all of the glitter, it was not so smooth.

I did two coats for the final results below:

 Pictures definitely do not do this polish any justice!  It's WAAAAY more sparkly in person!  I believe I purchased this polish for about $4.80 on Cherry Culture and I think that it was pretty nice deal.  Most of the China Glaze polishes that I purchase from my local Sally's Beauty Supply retail for around $8.

I used two coats of Seche Vite Fast Dry Top coat, because I wanted a really nice shiny finish to compliment the crazy and copious amounts of glitter!  All in all, I am very happy that I picked this pretty number up!  If you are in the market for something glitter-tastic, this is a nice choice for you.

My Rating:

Very sparkly and lots of glitter
Eye catching

Application is very grainy and can get a bit sticky/clumpy
Most likely will be very difficult to remove
Not a smooth finish. (Even after two coats of Seche Vite top coat, my nails still feel really grainy and you can feel all the sparkles. I listed this as a con as it may be for some.  I like my nails smooth, but this isn't too bad.)

I have been really into more of the glitter and sparkly polishes lately.  They are just so fun and they give you such a nice extra special "something" to your look.  It is also a nice change from a regular solid color polish. I have also really been wanting to try out more holographic polishes as well.  Layla Holographic polishes are a bit pricey for me (usually around $15), but I would like to pick some of those up because they appear to be sparkly without all the chunky glitter and the effects are amazing.  If I am lucky, Layla will be featured on Hautelook again and then I can save a boat load of money!  If you are not familiar with Hautelook, it is a really wonderful site to get amazing deals on designer items, clothes, jewelry and cosmetics as well as home decor and other things!  I have been registered with them for a few years now, and I have to say I'm glad I signed up because a majority of the high-end cosmetics products I own are because I bought them on sale from Hautelook for a steal.  Here's my invite if you would like to check out their regular events!

I'm working on my next review on the NYX Slide on Eye Liner Pencils that I also received from my recent Cherry Culture haul.  I'm really excited to share because I personally feel that they are comparable to Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide On Pencils, but for half the price, so stay tuned!  Hope everyone has a great week and I will see you soon!  Thank you again for stopping by and reading my silly opinions!  (^.~ )v

FOTD: Smudged Eyeliner

    Hey ladies (and gents?)!  I wanted to share my FOTD (face of the day) with you today.  I decided to go with some color today, instead of my usual/everyday black or brown eyeliner.  I was also having a really great hair day if I do say so myself. (^.^ );

Below, is an attempt of closeups for the eyes open and closed.  You can totally see my sweet ninja blending skills right? *sarcasm*

What I used today:

Skin79 VIP Gold BB Cream (I doubled up and used a bit of this as concealer on some spots around my face, as well as under the eyes.)

the Balm Mary-Lou Manizer as highlight on the tops of my cheeks, center of the eyelids, brow bone and nose bridge.

Sonia Kashuk Eye Definer in Purple Passion (I purchased mine at Target)
the Balm Mary-Lou Manizer as inner eye corner highlight
Dolly Wink Long Mascara (Volume formula here and here.)

Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable Lip Stain in Honey (I purchased mine at Target)
Before the stain, I used The Body Shops Born Lippy Stick Lip Balm in Lychee (This stuff smells like a real lychee fruit! I love it! It also has a bit of shimmers in it too.  It is also reminiscent of those jelly lychee candies you can buy at Asian markets!)

Brushes Used:
Everday Minerals Long Handled Kabuki (I love this brush it's so soft!)
Everyday Minerals Tapered Sculpting Face brush (for highlighting)

I basically followed the tutorial below from one of my fave Youtubers, Bubzbeauty.  I love her!  She always has amazing tutorials and great tips!  So if you liked my FOTD do check out the tutorial below to see how to do it! (^__^ )b

  My top is from Romy. I purchased the top at the store in my local mall.  The top that I purchased is in the color Cream.  On their website, it appears the top is white or a teal color.  I love this store and I check it often if I am at the mall because they always have killer sales.  I got this top at the store for 40% off and only paid about $16 for it.  (It was originally almost $40, $38 and some change, plus tax).  I am a girl on a budget but I do like cute clothes!  I'm sure a lot of you out there are on small budgets also, so I will be sure to list affordable and cute clothes or accessories if I stumble upon them.  I am always looking for a good deal!

  I know I haven't really updated too much since the holidays, but I hope you all enjoyed this FOTD and I hope to post again soon.  I also decided to add the brushes I used today because I thought that they were worthy of mentioning.  I have had my Everday Mineral brushes for a few years, and I love them so much!  Not only are they soft and get the job done, but they are also super affordable and inexpensive.  Another plus is that they are vegan-friendly and animal cruelty free!  They are also synthetic brushes.  Let me know if I should do a review on the ones that I currently own!

  I am expecting a small haul from Cherry Culture as I decided to pick up a few things with some extra cash I had from holiday over time at work.  The order has been shipped and I am waiting for it to arrive!  I will be sure to post pictures and reviews to let you know what I think of some of the products!  Check back for my thoughts on a holographic nail polish I picked up by China Glaze, as well as some NYX items.

Hoping everyone has been having a great week, and I will post again soon!

K-drama: Heartstrings

  Hi all!  I'm sorry I have neglected to post anything over the last couple weeks!  With the holiday rushes at work and finally having winter break from school, I have been trying to relax and not "do" anything at all lol.  I was also house-sitting for some friends for the week with the hubby and enjoying time to ourselves!

  Today I wanted to post about something I have been obsessed with!!!  I'm probably late on the band wagon, but I recently discovered the k-drama Heartstrings on Netflix!  I finished the series this morning at like 5am!! (lol I know weirdo huh?)  I loooooved this show!  It was sooo cute and I LOVE the soundtrack, I want it so bad!

This show is so adorable!  The main female character is played by the lovely actress Park Shin Hye and the leading male character is Jung Yong Hwa of CNBlue.  (Also, just an fyi, I am not Korean, but I love k-pop as well as j-pop!)  This was my first k-drama and it was awesome.  Hubby was even sucked in and watched some of it with me.  This show is still on Netflix currently, if you have not checked this out, you should because it's freaking cute!  Although, as much as I love it, I almost wish the ending was better.  It wasn't a bad or terrible ending, but in my personal opinion I feel like they threw random events/dragged it out a bit to make one more episode.  Anywho, I just wanted to post something and let you all know I am still alive and around but have been sucked into the amazing world of k-dramas!  Oh, and to make this post beauty related, I loved Shin Hye's fresh faced, barely there look throughout the series!  It's so lovely, and I want to recreate it for myself.  It's so youthful and awake!  I really love Korean actresses makeup in shows and of course k-pop bands.  It's always fresh, youthful and has a radiant glow.  It's usually pretty minimal too, which is always a plus because I usually take too long to get ready.

So sorry for rambling! -___-;  Anyway, I hope everyone enjoyed this holiday season and had a fantastic start to the New Year!  Welcoming 2013 with open arms and thanking you for taking the time to read my silly rants about beauty related things or in this case things that I have fallen in love with!  Please check back soon, I will have a "best of 2012" products list soon and hopefully a FOTD and Manicure Monday or two.  Hope everyone is enjoying their weekends!
